Yellowdig overview

The Yellowdig team would like to ensure a successful onboarding process to kickstart each semester with a strong launch. Here are a few checklists and tips to set up the initial infrastructure as an administrator.

Beginning of the Semester Checklist

  • Yellowdig integration with University LMS
  • Test profile set-up to check integration, Yellowdig functionality, & gradebook sync
  • Define roles: Assign Yellowdig Success Manager to university-based Project Leader
  • Define the scope of the pilot & list of professors to pilot Yellowdig
  • Add Yellowdig to pilot courses
  • Set up onboarding calendar to engage professors with webinars, Q & A sessions, etc.
  • Begin onboarding pilot faculty
  • Collaborate with Yellowdig’s Success Manager and give feedback!

Learning Tools Interoperability

What is LTI?

  • You can find all the details about LTI here. LTI stands for Learning Tools Interoperability and is a standardized and established way of integrating various learning software together.

What information is Yellowdig accessing?

  • Yellowdig uses the LTI to initially collect a set of parameters from the university Learning Management System (LMS), such as Canvas or BlackBoard. More specifically, Yellowdig is informed about:
    • The user’s name and email
    • The course name
    • The user role (student, professor, administrator)

How is data security enforced?

  • The administrator is provided with a key and secret during the integration process. This confirms the ‘identity’ of the course within the LMS to Yellowdig.

LMS We Support

The LTI allows for one-click access to Yellowdig via the university LMS. Yellowdig can be seamlessly integrated with Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle and other LTI supported Learning Management Systems.

Data Privacy

  • The LTI ensures a secure method of transferring data from the university LMS to Yellowdig during the integration process.
  • Yellowdig is FERPA compliant
  • Software Security: Yellowdig follows software security best practices, such as password encryption and restrictive access to development, deployment, and data storage environments.
  • Infrastructure Security: Traffic encryption, firewalls and restrictions, restrictive access to data, a virtual private network for servers.
  • Data Security: Utilize Amazon to host services, code backups as git repositories, daily backups of data on separate server.
  • For more information, please read our Privacy and Security measures in detail.

Yellowdig typically provides one Yellowdig board per course, based on our current data architecture and LTI setup. However, it is possible to provide multiple Yellowdig boards per course by re-configuring our data architecture and LTI setup in order to customize the platform to specific course needs. Please contact the Yellowdig team to discuss customized options.
